My name is John Mecham – I am the inventor of Razor Renew and the owner of Cosmic Bargains LLC. Several years ago I was looking for ways to save money on my ridiculously high priced disposable razor blades! I had a brilliant idea! If I could learn to shave with a straight razor I could save all the money I spent on disposable razor blades. I shaved with one of the more expensive disposable razor blades. I decided to take the leap! Just the initial investment in a straight razor, strop and a stone and I would be free of the ridiculously high priced razors.
I became an expert at sharpening up my straight razor with the strop. The actual shaving with the straight razor did not go very well for my face. I was very disappointed that my excellent money saving idea had gone bad. But then I started thinking about the concept of the strop and how it sharpened the straight razor. One side of the strop sharpens and hones the straight razor blade and the other side smooth’s the straight razor blade. Could this concept be applied to the disposable razor blade?
After experimenting around with many combinations of different ideas and techniques I figured out how to make a strop that could sharpen, hone and smooth my razor blade by running the razor blades against the leather up and down both sides of the strop the opposite way you shave. Using my newly invented strop, I use one disposable razor blade for 4 weeks instead of one week! Wow, I was saving over $100 a year on disposable razor blades. I applied for a patent and the rest is history!
I started to sell Razor Renew at Swap Meets, Arts and Craft Fairs etc. I wanted others to save money on their disposable razor blades too! Soon I started hearing from customers how well Razor Renew worked on their knives and scissors as well! Customers starting requesting that I make a much longer strop so that they could sharpen and smooth their longer knives and scissors! That is when I started making Razor Renew Long. I soon realized that because Razor Renew was able to sharpen and smooth the thin razor blades that it would sharpen and smooth any fine cutting instrument. Anyone who shaves with a disposable razor, uses a knife, scissors can use a Razor Renew: Moms, Dads, Chiefs, Beauticians, Barbers, Teenagers.
In my journey getting Razor Renew ready for market I have had several people tell me that I should make Razor Renew more consumable. In other words – make it cheaper so that customers have to buy replacements every year or two. I refuse to make Razor Renew with cheap materials! I want customers to have a product that is built with the highest quality materials that will last for a lifetime!
